Agatha Christie's Berkshire Years, Traced Through the County's Own Records

The Royal Berkshire Archives follows Agatha Christie through Berkshire using its own catalogued records. In the 1920s she and Archie Christie took a flat in a large Victorian house called Scotswood in Sunningdale so he could be near Sunningdale Golf Club, and the club's annual report records the couple beating Mr and Mrs Burberry at foursomes at the spring meeting of 1926. They moved to Styles, which Christie came to call an unlucky house, and she disappeared from it in December 1926. With Max Mallowan she bought Winterbrook House in Wallingford in 1934. She died in January 1976 and is buried at Cholsey, recorded in the parish register as of Winterbrook House.
