Jules-Eugène Lenepveu painted the dome of the Palais Garnier between 1869 and 1871. André Malraux had Chagall cover it with twenty-four canvases in 1964, and Lenepveu's descendant has now written to Macron proposing the two ceilings alternate every ten years.
