Reporting From the Zine Tent at the New York Art Book Fair

Lakshmi Rivera Amin walked the twentieth New York Art Book Fair at MoMA PS1 and filed from the outdoor zine tent rather than the main hall, where more than three hundred exhibitors were showing. She interviewed Jenna Hamed, Aya Krisht and Rhonda Khalifeh of the Book Arts Solidarity Network about MAKEREADY, a risograph publication made with artists in Gaza and South Lebanon, and got Hamed on the record on how the cross-border production actually works. What comes back is a report on small press labour and what it costs to make a book across a closed border, rather than the fair roundup the occasion invites.
